Two long-running university programs - the 30th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance (rescheduled from its original date in January due to inclement weather) and the 20th annual Friends of the ODU Libraries Author Dinner - took place last week, as the spring semester and season roll on across the campus.

Padilla Article on Pollutants Causing Weight Gain Wins International Award
Miguel A. Padilla, assistant professor of quantitative psychology and mathematics and statistics at ODU, is an author of a research article on the connection between environmental pollutants and weight gain in humans that has won an international best paper award.
Bassist Nicki Parrott to Perform for Diehn Concert Series
Internationally acclaimed bassist Nicki Parrott will perform on campus for the Diehn Concert Series at 8 p.m. Monday, April 14. The program will be in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.
ODU Theatre Production of 'Really, Really' Opens April 9 at Goode Theatre
"Really, Really" opens April 9 at the Goode Theatre. A play that questions the nature of friendship and the ethics of ambition, "Really, Really" was described by The New York Times as "the Lord of the Flies with smartphones."

ODU Study Abroad Students to Share Experiences from Paris/Auschwitz Course
ODU will conclude a series of Jewish Education Week events Wednesday with a program presented by students who recently returned from a spring break study abroad trip to Europe, where they studied the experiences of French and Polish Jews during the Holocaust.

President John R. Broderick recognizes the recipients of this year's Hugo Owens Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Award during Thursday evening's Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance program, which had been delayed due to inclement weather on its original January date. The university awards were presented to community leaders Christine M. Darden, Jack L. Ezzell Jr., Maurice A. Jones and Dr. Patricia King. Dr. L.D. Britt, who was unable to attend the program, was recognized as the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy of Service Award honoree.
